Do I have to be dressed all in white?
The most important thing is that every participant of the event has a white T-shirt. Of course it can be with the team name. The rest of your outfit does not have to be white, but remember that the less colors you are wearing at the beginning of the run, the more colored you will cross the finish!
How is the color administered along the course?
You will see smiling faces along the course whose main goal is to douse you in colorful powder to ensure that you look like you ran through a beautiful rainbow by the time you cross the finish line.
Will the color ruin clothes or running shoes?
The color does mostly wash out after the event. As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it the better. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn’t mind getting colorful.
Do the kilometer “Color Zones” affect runner vision? Or breathing?
The color powder used at The Color Run event is all certified non-toxic and free of any heavy metals. Our bright colors are a combination of cornstarch, baking soda, and FD&C dyes. As with any substance, you want to keep it out of your eyes and our “certified” color throwers make sure to aim low as you pass by. Some Color Runners opt to wear glasses or goggles for their eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for their mouths.
How does the color affect the inside of cars?
Most people bring some towels for the insides of their cars, or a change of clothes just in case.
Can spectators attend the post-race Finish Festival?
Only people with a valid tickets (race number and t-shirt) can take part in the event.
Are cameras and phones safe to have in the color zones?
Our race photographers are generally fine shooting from a medium distance of 50 feet, but to be totally safe we always recommend covering cameras/phones with a protective dust wrap. Those colorful powder particles are sneaky and The Color Run is not liable for any damage that might be done to your camera!
Is The Color Run timed?
The Color Run 5k is not a timed event. Runners tend to take their sweet time out there and we realized no one really cares about their speed We suggest self-timing for anyone desiring a finish time.
Are there refunds?
If an event is held as advertised, we cannot issue refunds. The logistics of setting up and planning the event make it impossible. Just make sure you are good to go before signing up. If for some reason you can’t make it to race day, at least come to the Check-In Party, pick up your gear, and say hi to us!
What if I am pregnant?
It’s totally up to what you and your doctor decide. We see a lot of pregnant runners at our races and they are the cutest ones out there! The powder is all certified non-toxic. We recommend wearing sunglasses or goggles, and a bandana over your mouth and nose in the color zones just for extra protection.
What happens if there is bad weather?
A little rain won’t stop The Happiest 5k! It even makes the color brighter! If there are major weather warnings in your city during the weekend of the event, check the city event webpage, and stay tuned for emails with updates.
In the event that severe weather does threaten the event, we have prepared some weather cancellation policies and guidelines. Learn more in the regulations of the event.
